About Me / My Experience

Karen is a mum to 4 grown up children and grandmother to 2. Having faced her own struggles in life Karen went on her own journey of self-discovery and recovery, and wanted to help others do the same. Having been through many adverse experiences means Karen is able to empathise with and understand circumstances others may find themselves in.

Karen is an experienced in Therapeutic Counselling, Hypnothetrapy, Creative Therapy, Play Therapy, The Rewind Technique and Coaching.

Karen has helped many adults work through their issues using Creative and Non-Verbal Therapy to compliment talking therapy, Karen has successfully coached both young people and adults and uses methods such as The Rewind Technique for PTSD and trauma.

Karen volunteered as a Samaritan's listener for 6 years so is experienced with highly sensitive and emotional situations.

Karen's interest in working with children and young people came about after working in the support department in secondary school and witnessing the pressure young people face in and out of school and noticing the lack of understanding and emotional support available to them and their parents; this prompted Karen to train with Place2Be (school counselling service) in Children and Young Person's counselling to work with them using child focussed counselling and creative/play therapy

The variety of modalities Karen has to offer means she is able to work in a way that is suited to you and your journey.
Karen always likes to use the most up to date techniques which is why she loves offering a scientifically validated coaching technique which utilises the subconscious mind to make positive changes easily, gently and quickly overcoming stress, anxiety, past traumas, negative emotions through handling the issues that are standing in the way of your goals with results that will blow your mind.

My Approach

I offer Counselling to individuals on both a short and long term basis with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it fully in a more authentic and present manner. I believe having compassion for self and bringing mindful awareness into your daily life are the basic ingredients in helping you to work toward change. I incorporate a number of various influences depending on where my client is at which include:

•CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)
•Psychodynamic therapy
•Person-Centred therapy
•Time-Limited therapy
•Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

My Experience

Throughout my time as a Therapist, I have worked with a range of presentations and issues, in private practice, a woman's charity and a drug and alcohol organisation. Listed below are some of the issues I help clients with:

Work and life Stress • Relationship issues • Panic Attacks • Anxiety •Loss and abandonment • Addiction • Depression • Domestic Violence• Low mood • Feeling sad or unhappy • Loss of fulfilment

Some clients come to therapy as a last resort because they begin to feel they can no longer sustain their lives whilst living with their distress and other clients attend therapy because something just doesn't feel quite right inside. Whatever the spectrum of your distress, counselling can help you to understand your patterns more deeply.
