Books to read with your child

At Snakes and Ladders Therapy & Coaching I recommend reading books with your child to support the therapeutic process, and in general to help your child to explore and process experiences, feelings and emotions, as well as to helping build the parent-child relationship.

I strongly recommend reading the chosen book through a couple of times yourself to see if it is appropriate for your child and also to notice what feelings it brings up for you too.

It is important to be fully engaged with your child and prepared to support any difficult feelings or emotions that come up for them by allowing them to express them freely; they may want a hug, for you to help give the feeling or emotion a name or, for you just to sit with them.

Your child may want to read the same book over and over while they process whatever they connect with.

Stories really are golden opportunities for quality time and connection and conversation.
